What is
SEO? It stands for Search Engine Optimization.
SEO
means that your website is designed and marketed in such a way that it is
more easily found by search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN and a
multitude of others. This means that people searching for the kind of
product or service your business provides, will find you more easily on
the first few pages of the search engine results.
When you are
searching for a product, or service, or information on the internet, how
many pages do you look through? It's usually only the first few pages.
This is where you want your business to be.

What is the point of having a website if nobody
can find it?
Why would anyone want to use our web design
service if webs we design are not easily found? - or if we don't offer
free advice on increasing quality traffic to your site?
What does our basic SEO here at TnT Web Design
include?
- We make this very page available for you to read through,
and advise that you follow the tips here.
- We edit content you supply us for your web design, if
necessary, to ensure excellent content and keyword compatibility.
- We pay meticulous attention to the meta description and
meta keyword tagging of your website.
- We insert search engine robot crawl instructions into the coding
of your website.
- We use Submitexpress to submit your
site to 40 search engines, which includes Google.
Submitting your site to search engines helps speed up the
process of the search engines' awareness that your site exists on the
internet. Not submitting your site delays this process.
By
typing in "free search engine submission" on Google, you can find many
sites where you can submit your site to search engines for free,
yourself. A warning to our web design clients: We submit your
site for you. Repeated submissions, less than a month apart, to the same search engines may result
in you receiving a spam warning, or a search engine no longer indexing your website.
- We use Submitexpress to analyse the
meta tag coding of your website.
Please note: The
above basic SEO service is included in our R200 per page web design
price.

design price.
No, this is not a special price. It is our
standard all-inclusive web design price. There will be no price increase
before 2010.
What can you do?
- You want traffic (visitors) to your site, and it is in your
best interest that you advertise the link to your website
wherever you can, and as often as you can, through both usual
advertising media, and online advertising.
- Speak to your clients and suppliers - anyone that has
something to do with your business - and suggest a link exchange.
What is a link exchange? It is when a link to somebody
else's website appears on yours, and vice-versa. Make sure the sites
you swop links with are quality sites that are not overloaded with links
to every place under the sun, that have very little to do with what your
business is about, as this could do more harm to your own site, than
good. Try and arrange this before your website designed by us goes
live, as alterations to a website are charged for after the free first 7
days.
- Send an email to everyone you know, friends, family
and business aquaintances, to let them know your new website is up and
running.
This not only helps start the flow of traffic to your site
that it needs, but also gives you an opportunity to ask them what they
think of the site, and if you feel any alterations are required, you can
submit them before the 7 days for free alterations is over.
- Make use of backlinks wherever you can. What is a
backlink? A backlink is another term used to name a link that is
incoming to your site - you don't necessarily have to have an outgoing
link to those sites too, so it's different from a link
exchange.
Backlinks can make a huge difference in your findability on
the internet.
- Make free use of a keyword meta tag analyser like on
Submitexpress to check the quality of a website page
keyword tagging, and discuss the results with your website
designer.
If having a website designed by us, meta tag analysing,
and implementation of the results, is done, once, at no extra
charge, at the time of designing your website.
- Many many online classifieds are free, and we
suggest you submit an ad to many of them. The more the merrier, but the
following ones really often rank high when various search words are
typed in:
Ectourism (Eastern Cape area only) Easyinfo Vottle Locanto Gumtree Hotfrog
Besides making sure to advertise on
most or all of the above free classifieds, here is a worthwhile project
for you to undertake:
On Google South Africa, type in a search
word or search phrase pertaining to your business product, service, or
location. You want to advertise on whichever free online classifieds
come up in the results.
Repeat the whole process for another
keyword or key phrase, as different online classified results may come
up each time.
Be sure to update or refresh the adverts at least
once a month.
You can use the same method for finding blogs to visit, where you can comment on posts
and leave a link back to your website. Make sure to leave a fairly lengthy comment and be polite.
Leaving comments and your link on blogs that have similar content to your website or blog, and that are
easily found for the search words you also want to be easily found for, is a good method of SEO not to
be overlooked.
- Other methods to help you gain more traffic include
submitting your site and business details to online business
directories.
Join and participate in forums related to
your line of business. An excellent, helpful forum for both website
designers and website owners is Website Babble
Join business networking
communities such as My Genius
All of the above basic SEO procedures are what we
also use for our own website. On Google South Africa, type in "web design
east london" and see if we're there!
There's a lot for you to start
doing regards increasing your website traffic and findability. Get
started!
Always remember that the internet is huge. And most of
the time there are thousands of businesses similar to yours in one way or
another.
Please note there is a NEVER A GUARANTEE that you will
appear on first page search results, but efforts can be made to increase
your chances.
If your competitors websites have similar
content to yours, and are getting the same amount of traffic as yours,
you need to improve your SEO.
In the same way, if your
competitors have used similar SEO methods, and have similar content to
you, you need to increase your traffic.
Good luck!
